Artist Statement
As an artist, my designs portray the connectedness of natural forms to
that of spiritual thought and experience. This particular work stems from both fear and passion within myself. It is an exploration of how religious faith penetrates my life. In the resurgence of my fascination with the fear of spiders, I came to realize the integral part of these creatures in their connectedness to others in the web of life. Without them, the chain breaks down. Within my Faith, what is unseen is yet present within each individual person. This is the Holy Spirit, often represented as fire, the passion. Fire engulfs my work, depicting the presence of God within humankind. In overcoming fear, one becomes reconnected to the larger community of people. Through the presence of the Holy Spirit, one goes forth in courage to proclaim the Good News, conquering fears that lie within. The web connects the fire of the Holy Spirit within to the larger body of people. The sense of community builds confidence and eliminates fear.
